Professional Information
Post-Cataract assessment:
An appointment is usually undertaken 4-6 weeks after cataract surgery. The clinician is required to perform a refraction and ocular health check to both eyes.
The following information needs to be collected from the appointment:
Date of cataract surgery
Supervising consultant
Operating Doctor
Which eye(s)
Complications of surgery (noted pre-operatively)
Pre-existing ocular conditions (e.g., AMD, Glaucoma, DR, ERM etc.)
Outcome of the appointment
Discharge
Review at Surgical centre
Review by Optom
List for second eye
Other
Patient satisfaction score (1-5 with 1 being poor and 5 being great)
Details of any other reasons for prompt triage at the county hospital or post-operative concerns/complications

NB: If the patient attends a post-operative appointment and has complications which can be managed by the optometrist, the appointment may be altered to MECS/CUES to allow for prescribing (e.g., in the case of post-operative CMO). If the complication is more serious (e.g., retinal detachment) then a same-day referral to Eye Casualty should be made.
